Bot adding data with future dates
[edit]Hi. This File:Murales-valencia garage.jpg image was uploaded on March 10 2024. The next day, March 11 2024, Multichill bot added structured data, including a date 22 March 2024, that had not yet come https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3AMurales-valencia_garage.jpg&diff=859489766&oldid=859439830 . Obviusly, regardless of the Exif data, which depend on the settings of the camera or device with which the file was created, a file can't be created after its upload. Shouldn't bots refrain to add future dates, or, at least, add a warning when Exif data are seen to be incorrect? Javier ME (talk) 08:20, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Javierme: the bot just extracts it from the wikitext. Upload date and exif are not used. The only checks if it's a valid date (if the Wikibase API is able to parse it). It was uploaded with the upload wizard, that should probably throw a warning about the data being in the future. Multichill (talk) 09:21, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
Geographicus files
[edit]Hi, A lot of files were uploaded from Geographicus with incomplete license (only PD-Art), e.g. File:1884 Bradley Map of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho - Geographicus - MTWYID-bradley-1884.jpg. Would it be possible to fix these? I have already fixed many manually, but it is a pain. Thanks, Yann (talk) 17:03, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

Juiste sjabloon

Ik was wat bestanden uit het Stadsarchief Rotterdam aan het nalopen, en veel van hun bestanden zijn geupload als CC-0 waar ze eigenlijk als PD-old gelicenseerd moeten zijn, zoals bijvoorbeeld File:1920 Portret van mr. Wynand Adriaan Mees, kassier en makelaar in assurantiën.jpg. Ik worstel even met het juiste sjabloon: als ik {{PD-old}} gebruik zegt het sjabloon dat ik ook de licentie voor de VS toe moet voegen, en gebruik ik {{PD-old-expired}} dan zegt hij dat het bestand is gepubliceerd in de VS voor 1930. Het Stadsarchief Rotterdam heeft een mix van bestanden beschikbaar onder PD, deels omdat de fotograaf overleden is, deels omdat de (onbekende) fotograaf bij een van de plaatselijke kranten werkte en de afbeelding meer dan 70 jaar geleden is gepubliceerd. - Hey @Pelikana, bedankt voor het meedenken. PD vanwege ouderdom is in ieder geval correct: ik worstel met wat er *in* onze sjablonen hier staat. {{PD-old-70-expired}} lijkt een duo-sjabloon die twee verschillende situaties dekt: zowel alle landen met PD wetgeving voor 70 jaar of minder na het overlijden van de maker, alsook (en? of? en/of? geen idee wat het werkelijk betekent!) foto's die in de USA in het PD gekomen zijn vóór January 1, 1930. Dat is toch verwarrend...?
- Die welke jij voorstelt, {{PD-old-auto-1996}}, stelt in voorwaarde #3 dat de afbeelding met dat sjabloon gepubliceerd is in het eigen land voor 1926 (opmerking 3, URAA = 1996-70 jaar = foto was al in het publiek domein in 1926.). Dat is in dit geval ook niet van toepassing, meen ik - de afbeeldingen uit het Rotterdams Archief zijn uit de jaren 1930 en 1940.
- Het kan ook aan mij liggen hoor, maar ik zit hier echt even in de knoop.

Nun gibt es zwei: Bernadette Schugg und Category:Bernadette Schugg. Kann man dieses Problem geheben? Oder soll ich beide löschen und neu anfangen? Hoe krijg ik Camera location automatisch bij mijn fotos ?
[edit]Ik wil bij een flink aantal fotos graag dat ze op OpenStreetMap verschijnen en dat gaat via Camera Locaton denk ik. Vroeger ging dat automatisch. HOe krijg ik dat voorelkaar ? In de Metadata zit bijna altijd GPS informatie.

- I guess it should be two steps:
- Identify images that have coordinates in EXIF and tag these with {{GPS EXIF}}
- Extract GPS from EXIF, but it in structured data and replace {{GPS EXIF}} with {{Location}}
- For finding images we'll probably need different strategies like monitoring recent changes and scanning a database dump.
- Mediawiki already extracts EXIF and exposes that in the API so should be possible to do this without having to download all images. Multichill (talk) 17:34, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

And i just dont get it becasue on WikiMap - Media with GPS EXIF the photos are nice on the map. Is it possible to extrat the GPS data from this map ? - I see that in the API the GPS coordinates are decimal. That is excellent as LOCATION needs that. Now it is may be less work than i thought, but autmatically will be less error prone and less work.

- It is not possible to use parts of the DSchwenBot to get it to work again ? I will try to use the upload wizard as that seems the advice. My iphone SE dropped in to the toilet and it is definitely NOT waterproof as the specifications say. JakobHosp (talk) 07:26, 25 July 2025 (UTC)

GPS EXIF should not be added when location withheld

hello, writing here to avoid another topic since is related. can I ask you why your bot (that was extracting coordinates from EXIF) broke down? is there a way to implement it again? can I do it somehow (ofc not manually as I did for some of my files)? now in that category there are more than 300k files and it's still increasing... - @GiovanniPen: My bot didn't break down. User:DschwenBot broke down, see User_talk:Dschwen#'GPS_EXIF'-tagged_images_haven't_been_processed_for_>24_hrs.
- We had three years of backlog and my bot finished tagging those with {{GPS EXIF}} so I don't think it will increase a lot. The last ones are in Category:GPS EXIF candidates (review needed).
- I just focused on first getting these files tagged, next step is to extract coordinates, see also User_talk:Rkieferbaum#Category:Media_with_GPS_EXIF. Multichill (talk) 21:06, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
