About the project

[edit]

The Museum’s upload goals this year were to test the viability of using bespoke templates for each of the Museum’s Collection Areas, and to test these templates using discrete uploads. Additionally, different uploading processes were investigated to gauge viability of uploads using alternative methods to the API python script that User:Fae had developed historically in collaboration with the museum.

Objectives will include creating:

  • Human History Template
  • Documentary Heritage Template
  • Natural Science Template

Testing will take place via:

  • IA Upload Tool
  • PattyPan in conjunction with Quickstatements
  • OpenRefine

Priority Uploads include:

  • Auckland Museum Annual Reports (a vulnerable online collection after the recent Internet Archive Outage)
  • Auckland Museum BHL Holdings (another vulnerable online collection hosted on Internet Archive)
  • Henry Winkelmann Collection (a collection selected for UNESCO Memory of the World status)

Learnings from Fae’s upload, and things to keep in mind:

  • Copyright needs to be verified in the absolute, deletions are difficult and not guaranteed
  • Some negatives and reverses of the photography collection were uploaded, which we may not necessarily wish to include in future uploads
